On June 6, 2026, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Mozambique conducted a visit to Ossimba Beach Lodge with the aim of gaining firsthand insight into initiatives implemented in partnership with the local community, with a strong focus on marine conservation and the promotion of sustainable practices.
During the visit, the marine sanctuary in the area was presented, showcasing collaborative efforts to protect coastal ecosystems. Discussions also highlighted the active involvement of the local community in conservation actions and the sustainable management of natural resources, reinforcing the importance of community participation in environmental protection.
The meeting further provided an opportunity to explore potential synergies for the implementation of a coral reef monitoring initiative, under the Blue Future Project and the Women Ocean Guardians (WoGi) initiative. This collaboration aims to strengthen marine ecosystem resilience and enhance the role of communities—particularly women—in ocean conservation.
The visit reaffirmed WCS’s commitment to building strategic partnerships that amplify conservation impact and contribute to the sustainable development of coastal communities
