From September 1 to 2, 2025, the city of Beira hosts a technical training program for 35 professionals from the Environmental Sector, including representatives from the Provincial Environmental Service (SPA), the Provincial Directorate of Territorial Development and Environment (DPDTA), and the Provincial Delegation of the National Agency for Environmental Quality Control (DPAQUA) across the provinces of Sofala, Manica, and Tete, focused on the use of Mozambique’s Historical Vegetation Map and the Assessment of Red List of Ecosystems. The training is promoted by the National Directorate of Environment and Climate Change (DINAMC) together with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Mozambique.
This training aims to build the capabilities of environmental officers regarding the importance of caring for sensitive or threatened ecosystems. In addition, the training provides the necessary information to ensure that projects with potential to pose a high impact on the environment are adequately addressed, limiting their likelihood of compromising key biodiversity elements and sites, and identifying how to integrate these places into the ecological network of the districts. The training is part of the SBAPP Regional Project (Spatial Biodiversity Assessment Prioritization and Planning), which aims to strengthen biodiversity knowledge in order to inform land-use planning, sustain decision-making and environmental policy making in South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique and Namibia.
