A seminar entitled "Strengthening Awareness and Knowledge of National and International Measures for the Conservation of Sharks and Rays" took place on March 27 in Maputo.
The objectives of the meeting were to improve understanding of national legislation, especially REPMAR and the CITES Regulation and other related instruments relating to the marketing of sharks and rays, as well as to raise awareness of the international measures and obligations to which the country is a signatory, such as CMS, CITES and IOTC.

This meeting, led by the National Fisheries Administration (Administração Nacional das Pescas - ADNAP) in partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), brought together 26 participants, including senior staff and managers of state institutions involved in the conservation and management of sharks and rays, namely ANAC, DINAB, PPNMA, ADNAP, IP, INAMAR, IP, Fish Inspection, IP, InOM, Customs, AT, PCLF, SERNIC, UEM and the Public Prosecutor's Office, as well as representatives from the Community Fishing Councils of Costa del Sol.

This seminar reinforced the knowledge of law enforcement agents on national and international conservation measures which is essential to ensure the effective implementation of their mandates.
