The National Fisheries Administration (ADNAP), with the support of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the Ocean Country Partnership Program (OCPP), held the Harmonization Workshop for the proposed National Action Plan for Shark and Ray Management (2025-2029) on 6 March 2025 in Maputo City. This workshop aimed to present and validate the Plan with the different stakeholders at national level. It focused on presenting the Plan and gathering input on the main problems and objectives, as well as harmonizing the components of the Action Plan.
Workshop participants representing Government institutions at national and local level, fishing communities, research institutions, the private sector and NGOs.
The workshop was attended by 32 institutions, represented by 70 participants from central and local level, including the representatives from the Fishing Community Councils from Zambezia, Maputo and Inhambane province. Over the next few days, on 7 and 8 March 2025, a select group met to assess the contributions made during the workshop and include them in the plan.
The National Action Plan for Shark and Ray Management (2025-2029) is expected to be published in the Official Gazette by April this year.
