A technical workshop (in the form of a retreat) was held from 23 to 25 July 2024 in Ponta do Ouro, Maputo Province, with a view to drafting the new national biodiversity targets and the respective indicators, aligning them with the new Kumning-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework in an inclusive and participatory approach with representation from different players, public, private, civil society and others.
The workshop was organised by the National Directorate for the Environment (DINAB), with the technical and financial support of the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and was attended by around 20 participants, who made up the multidisciplinary task force created by DINAB as part of the process of revising and updating the Biodiversity Conservation Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), made up of representatives from public and private entities together with selected partners.
This seminar is part of the effort that the government has been making since May 2023, with the support of WCS and other partners, to ensure that national targets are aligned with the new Kumning-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, approved at COP 15 in December 2022 in Canada.
WCS intends to continue working together with government, the private sector, civil society and other key stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive, collaborative implementation of the new Global Biodiversity Framework, so that in the long term we can live in harmony with nature.
