The Portuguese version of the course on the identification and delineation of Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) was launched on 23 January 2023 on the international online platform for conservation courses (conservationtraining.org). This new version of the course was developed so that the public interested in KBAs (particularly Portuguese speakers), can expand their knowledge and gain the necessary skills to identify and delineate KBAs consistently to the guidelines of the new global KBA Standard.
The course has a duration of approximately 10 hours and is composed of 8 modules. Several useful resources are provided to support the identification and delineation of KBAs, such as the national assessment carried out in Mozambique that culminated in the mapping of 29 KBAs (25 terrestrial and 4 marine) and the establishment of the National Coordination Group (NCG) of KBAs.
The translation of the course into Portuguese was led by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Mozambique, who hired a sworn translator for the purpose, in collaboration with the course editors and the KBA Secretariat (KBA Partnership). With this new version, the online course package on KBAs is now available in 4 languages (English, French, Spanish and Portuguese). It is important to highlight that the course is free of charge and to access it, you just need to register on The Nature Conservancy (conservationtraining.org)´s website.
