Under the Western Indian Ocean Shark & Ray Program which includes Mozambique, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) supported the National Fisheries Administration (ADNAP) from the Ministry of Sea, Interior Waters and Fisheries (MIMAIP) to hold an awareness and dissemination meeting on the new Maritime Fisheries Regulation (Decree 89/2020, REPMAR) in Maputo City on 8 April 2022.
The main objective was to inform attendees on the content of Article 145 on Minimum Sizes and Weights and Article 146 on Protected Species, both of which WCS helped the Government to develop. Issues related to the main innovations of REPMAR were also discussed.
This meeting was attended by institutions linked to MIMAIP, members of the Community Fisheries Councils (CCP) from Bairro dos Pescadores and Muntanhana (Maputo), and various strategic partners linked to the maritime sector and civil society organizations. This event is part of the support that WCS has committed to under the MoU established with the Mozambican Government to support Marine Conservation, including shark & ray protection, sustainable small-scale fisheries and marine protected area expansion.
