The World Food Programme is organizing this week an assessment mission in Mecula district inside the Niassa Special Reserve. This mission is leaded by Mr Pierre Lucas, Deputy Country Director of the United Nations World Food Programme in Mozambique, Mrs Julieth Perez from WFP Nutrition team and Mrs Alcenia Mondlhane, School Feeding specialist from WFP office in Nampula.
The objectif is to look at the possibility to expand WFP activities in Niassa province, with a focus on human development in Mecula district. The creation of possible synergies between the conservation agenda of ANAC/WCS and the human development priorities of the provincial and districtal authorities is one of the objective of this mission. WFP is looking at the possibility to support 2 health centers and 2 schools in Mecula Sede and Mussoma to be included in its nutrition and school feeding programme. Assets and livelihood creations and sustainable/resilient agricultural practices are also considered in this mission.
Last but not least, WFP is looking at the possibility to add Mecula district in the list of the destination served by the United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) for logistic support.
The United Nations World Food Programme thanks Mecula district authorities and ANAC/WCS administration for their support to organize this first assessment mission.
