Lions are in crisis—half of all wild lions have been lost in the past 25 years with as few as 20,000 remaining in Africa. But, we know that when we work together lion recovery is possible.
We recognise that the presidents and leaders of the African countries, and the communities who live alongside lions, are the custodians of African lions for the world.
We recognise that lions are national and global treasures. Today, we adopt the Declarations to Recover Lions to ensure that wild lions, landscapes and African people thrive.
Stop the Loss
We must work to protect lions, their prey and their landscapes.
Living with lions is not easy. We must work to minimise the financial and emotional burden on people in Africa who share landscapes with lions.
We must uncover and magnify the cultural, economic and ecological benefits lions and their landscapes bring to communities, national economies and the global community.
