Niassa National Reserve comprises 8 districts in northern of Mozambique, 6 in Niassa Province and 2 in Cabo Delgado Province (Montepuez and Mueda). In the face of the natural disaster that is already being felt with intensity in the Cabo Delgado Province, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), co-manager of the Niassa National Reserve Administration, in partnership with the National Administration for Conservation Areas (ANAC), has a contingency plan to use of its Cessna 206 aircraft to survey the extent of fdamage and flooding in coordination with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF)/Ambassador Aviation and other humanitarian aid partners to support local people and wildlife suffering the effects of Cyclone Kenneth.
Fortunately, initial reports from the Niassa National Reserve Administration give indications that no damage to date and has been recorded and that the storm is reducing in intensity. However, more rain is still expected, which is why the aircraft is on standby to assist the eastern regions of the Reserve and beyond in the districts of Mueda, Montepuez and Marrupa, if requested.
